The Yellow-shouldered Amazon (Amazona barbadensis) otherwise called Yellow-shouldered Parrot is a parrot of the sort Amazona that is found in the parched territories of northern Venezuela, the Venezuelan islands of Margarita and La Blanquilla, and the island of Bonaire (Caribbean Netherlands). It has been extirpated from Aruba and perhaps at the same time Curaçao.
It has a whitish brow and legends, and a yellow crown, visual area and - frequently - ear coverts and button. The exposed eye-ring is white. The thighs and the curve of the wing ("shoulder") are yellow, yet both might be troublesome to see. The throat, cheeks and stomach frequently have a somewhat blue tinge. As most parts of the class Amazona, it has wide dull blue tips to the remiges and a red wing-speculum. Its bill is horn shaded.
In its extend the yellow shoulder patch and broad yellow on the head recognize the Yellow-shouldered Amazon from other Amazona species, which have red or orange on the shoulder and less yellow on the head (the Orange-winged Amazon, which has to the extent that to the head as some Yellow-shouldered Amazons, has a blue visual area). Then again, outside its extend, a few other Amazona species have as much - or more - yellow on their heads
